Bond University Delegation Visits Phan Chau Trinh University to Strengthen Clinical and Academic Collaboration

From 24–26 August 2026, Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) welcomed an academic delegation from Bond University, Australia, for a three-day visit focused on clinical education, student placements, academic exchange and research collaboration.

The delegation included Dr Rhea Liang, MD Curriculum Lead; Dr Belinda Lowe, Consultant Obstetrician; Dr Ravi Balakrishnamoorthy, Consultant Paediatrician, who joined selected sessions online; A/Prof. Cindy Jones, Co-Head of the Bachelor of Medical Studies Program and International Lead; and A/Prof. Mina Bakhit, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Bond University’s Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice.

Exploring PCTU’s Medical Education Ecosystem

The programme began at PCTU with meetings between academic, clinical and international engagement teams, followed by visits to the University Library, Medical Museum, Simulation Hospital, and Biomedical Research and Application Center. The delegation gained an overview of PCTU’s integrated medical education environment, linking academic learning, simulation, research and clinical practice.

A key focus of the visit was the clinical learning experience at Phan Chau Trinh University Hospital and Tam Tri Da Nang General Hospital. The delegation reviewed teaching environments in Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Paediatrics, and met with Clinical Instructors to discuss student supervision, clinical exposure, assessment, feedback and participation in healthcare teams.

At Tam Tri Da Nang General Hospital, discussions focused particularly on paediatric and neonatal placements, clinical reasoning, multidisciplinary care and student assessment, with Dr Ravi Balakrishnamoorthy joining the session online.

Sharing Educational Expertise Through Academic Seminars

The final day featured academic seminars led by Dr Rhea Liang on clinical curriculum design and decision-making, and by Dr Belinda Lowe on simulation-based education and mental rehearsal for procedural learning.

Expanding Opportunities for Research and Institutional Collaboration

Research and institutional collaboration were also explored through discussions involving A/Prof. Cindy Jones, A/Prof. Mina Bakhit, PCTU representatives and a Joint Working Group, creating further opportunities for future academic and research cooperation.

A Shared Commitment to International Medical Education

The three-day visit strengthened engagement between the two universities and their clinical partners, reinforcing a shared commitment to high-quality medical education, international learning opportunities and closer integration of education, clinical practice and research.

The programme concluded with a dinner bringing together representatives from PCTU, Bond University and the Clem Jones Centre, marking the close of three days of professional exchange and collaboration.
