Dr. Jessica Stokes-Parish from Bond University Visits and Delivers “Teaching on the Run” Training at Phan Chau Trinh University
Academic Collaboration, Visiting Lecturers

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic collaboration and enhance clinical teaching capacity, Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) recently welcomed Dr. Jessica Stokes-Parish, Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Service Quality at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University (Australia), who visited the University and delivered training through the “Teaching on the Run” program.

Teaching on the Run is a well-recognized faculty development program widely used in medical schools worldwide. It is designed to help clinicians and medical educators improve their teaching effectiveness in clinical environments. During a recent academic visit to Bond University (9-13 Feb 2026), the PCTU delegation had the opportunity to experience this program and found it highly practical and impactful.  Building on this positive experience, PCTU sought Bond University’s continued support for its professional development initiatives.

In response, Bond University demonstrated strong partnership, trust, and commitment to PCTU by sending Dr. Jessica Stokes-Parish to facilitate the training directly at the University. In addition, Associate Professor Conor Gilligan, Associate Professor in Social Sciences and Co-Head of the Bachelor of Medical Studies Program at Bond University, joined the sessions online to share international perspectives and expertise in clinical education

The Teaching on the Run program delivered at PCTU consisted of three key modules: Planning Learning, Clinical Teaching, and Skills Teaching. The first module, Planning Learning, was conducted online on 25 February 2026. The remaining two modules, Clinical Teaching and Skills Teaching, were later delivered in a combined three-hour session on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. This session was conducted in a hybrid format, with Dr. Jessica Stokes-Parish facilitating the training in person at PCTU, while Assoc. Prof. Conor Gilligan joined online from Bond University.

The training focused on developing effective communication skills in clinical teaching settings, providing practical strategies for supervising medical students during clinical placements, and enhancing approaches to teaching clinical skills. The sessions were particularly valuable for clinicians, supervisors, and academic staff who are directly involved in mentoring students.

Notably, during her visit, Dr. Jessica Stokes-Parish also personally accompanied students as they were introduced to their clinical instructors and explored the learning environment at the hospital. Her presence reflects not only the strong academic trust between the two institutions, but also Bond University’s close attention to the learning and placement experiences of students.

The implementation of the Teaching on the Run program at PCTU represents an important step in the University’s strategy to internationalize medical education and strengthen clinical teaching capacity among its faculty members. It also highlights the growing and meaningful partnership between Phan Chau Trinh University and Bond University in advancing medical education and academic collaboration.
